Most online converters upload your file to a server, process it there, and send it back — which means a stranger's computer briefly holds your document, photo, or video. Every tool here works the opposite way: the conversion happens inside your own browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly, so your file never leaves your device. That makes them faster for small files, private by design, and usable even on flaky connections. The trade-off is that very large files are limited by your device's memory rather than a powerful server, so for multi-gigabyte jobs a desktop application is still the better choice.
